QUICK ANSWER
Yes, but with restrictions
The DVSA annual MOT tester assessment is considered an ‘open-book’ exam. An open-book exam allows you to refer back to any notes or other course materials while taking the exam. Open-book exams are designed to test your ability to analyse, evaluate or synthesise knowledge, rather than your ability to recall facts or information.Along with being able to have various documents and materials available during the exam, you can also have an assistant with you.
Your assistance can help read the questions and answers to you if you have difficulty reading.
IMPORTANT
Your assistant is not allowed to tell you what the correct answer to a question is, nor is your assistant allowed to advise you of what the correct answer may be. The use of an assistant during the annual assessment is strictly for the purpose of helping you navigate the exam.
If you are found to have cheated (i.e. if it is deemed your assistant took your exam for you), the DVSA reserve the right to void your exam attempt. This can put you at risk of suspension of your MOT testing licence.
