Help Centre Annual training Does a newly qualified tester need to complete the annual training?

I just qualified as an MOT Tester. Do I still need to complete the 3 hours of training and the annual exam?

Exploring the annual training requirements for newly qualified MOT testers.
In the MOT testing Guide, the DVSA state the following:

New testers are not required to complete the annual assessment or record annual training within the current year (1 April to 31 March) of a successful demonstration test unless they become lapsed.
Source: MOT Testing Guide Appendix 6: 1. Training for testers

Example scenarios
Example 1: Passing a demonstration test between 1st April and 31st March
Joe Bloggs passes his qualification course on 23rd April 2023 and completes a successful demonstration test on 19th June 2023. Joe is not required to do the 2023-24 training and/or exam until 01/04/24 onwards.

Example 2: Not conducting a test for 6 months after successful demonstration
Continuing with the example above, if Joe Bloggs doesn’t conduct an MOT from 19th June 2023 for 6 months, then his licence will become lapsed and therefore he will need to complete the 2023-24 annual training and assessment in order to re-qualify as an MOT tester.

Example 3: Passing the course and the demonstration both sides of 1st April
If Jane Doe passed her qualification course on 12th March 2023 but passed her demonstration test on 2nd April 2023, she will not be required to complete the 2023-24 annual training and/or assessment until 01/04/2024 (unless she becomes lapsed as in example #2).

Example 4: Passing the demonstration test before 1st April
If John Doe passed his qualification course on 1st March 2023 and completed his successful demonstration test on 31st March 2023, he will be required to complete the 2023-24 annual training and assessment.
